McAtee named Assistant CoachSept. 28 1998Canadian hammer thrower Glenn McAtee has been named Assistant Track and Field coach at California State University-Northridge (CSUN). McAtee, a silver medalist at this year's National Championships and a member of the 1997 Francaphone Games team, will be responsible for both the Men's and Women's throws squads. In addition to his coaching duties, McAtee will also lecture in the Kinesiology Deptartment at CSUN. The University of South Carolina Grad will be working with a talented throws group which includes Christina Tolson, last years Big Sky Conference Champion in the hammer. Tolson's marks (HT 59,96m and SP 16,33) make her one of the top returners in the nation. On the men's side, Big Sky Conference SP champ Billy Bush (SP 19,01m and DT 54m) will redshirt the 1999 indoor and outdoor seasons to prepare for the 2000 NCAA meets and Olympic Trials. Men's team will be lead by Junior College Transfer Shannon Garnett, a 17m SP/ 50m DT performer. In a phone conversation with McAtee he mentioned that "While we have a lot of talent this year, we lack depth, especially on the women's side." He also added that his first priority is "to recruit talented and motivated student-athletes in order to ensure the future success of the program." CSUN is one of the largest schools in the California state system, with 25,000 full time students. Low faculty to student ratios mean the average class size is 30 students and Degrees are offered in 48 areas, including nationally recognized programs in Kinesiology, Business, and Deaf Studies.
