THROWING NEWSProvincial Record, Top North American Throw for Steacy at Pan Am Juniors Jim Steacy of the Chinook Track and Field Club who is still a juvenile established a new Alberta provincial under 18 junior record while competing at the Pan American Junior championships in Argentina. Steacy¹s mark of 59.21 bettered the old record by over 7 meters and placed him fourth in the final just missing a bronze medal behind Luis of Mexico who threw 60.37m. That mark leaves Steacy as the top ranked North America high schooler with the 16lb hammer ahead of Adam Midles of Olympia Washington who has throw 58.31. Steacy will be eligible to compete at these games again in 2003. Irwin Wong Sing of the Kajaks Track club also had a personal best and finished in eigth spot. In women's javelin, national champion Joannie Dupont of Quebec was fifth with a respectable toss of 44.84 while Amy Dodge was eigth.
