Snyder Sails to SEC win

Another great weekend of Canadian throws results as Brad Snyder, attending South Carolina, won the SEC Shot Put championships with a toss of 20.23. Snyder also won the discus with a throw of 58.14m In only his sophomore season (outdoors), Snyder captured his fifth SEC title, tying him with women's thrower Dawn Ellerbee for the South Carolina school record. Snyder's victory also marks the sixth consecutive SEC title for South Carolina in the men's shot put. It also retains his unbeaten streak for this year. In Men's Hammer Wes Boudreau, attending Tennessee won the SEC with a toss of 66.10m Boudreau captured his second consecutive SEC men's hammer title, becoming the conference's first back-to-back hammer champion since Georgia's Boris Stoikos (1992-93) also a Canadian. Michelle Fournier, also competing at the SEC Championships was second in hammer with a pb of 58.02m, 4th in discus with a throw of 49.46m, and was 7th in shot with 14.58m. In other results of note Patti Pilsner-Steinke threw 57.12m in hammer to set a personal best as well as achieve the CommonWealth Games minimum standard. Caroline Witttin threw 56.14 in hammer at the Kajaks 1998 Relays while Gerogette Reed threw 15.78m in shot.

At the EOSSAA championships on Wednesday May 20th, Nicole Clarke won two gold medals and broke the meet record in the shot. In discus she threw 38.26m and in the shot she threw 12.53m to break the 22 year old meet record. Clarke is presently the top junior women's putter with a toss of 13.22m
