THROWING NEWSNew Zealand Training Camp Experience On February 4, 2002, the Millennium Institute of Sport opened its doors to the world, offering top quality programs for local and international athletes. Located in North Shore City, New Zealand, the institute is an extensive on-site training experience. Everything can take place in one location. You can train outside at the athletics stadium, or use the indoor sprint track and jumping pits, where the sports science personnel can help you track your progress through built in sensors. Also available is more detailed testing through physiological and biomechanical analyses at the onsite laboratory. Millennium Institute members have access to the climbing wall, fitness center, olympic swimming and spa pools. In addition, top quality sports medicine and sports rehabilitation services are located at the institute. The quality of the training facilities and accessible services at the institute are not the sole benefits for visiting athletes, but what's more is the convenience of having all facilities and services in one place. Furthermore, social facilities such as a dining areas, a bar, a cafe, as well as high class accommodations are on hand. Within 100m of the main complex is "The Lodge", providing housing and relaxation. The Lodge offers kitchenettes, lounge areas, laundry facilities, telephone and internet links. Patti Pilsner-Steinke looks forward to her next visit to New Zealand, and would like to thank the Millennium Institute of Sport and Health, (especially Anne, Nick, Keith and Nebojsa), for their hospitality and kindness during her "winter" training visit.
