Foot Locker Sponsors Canadian Throws Program March 30 1998 Foot Locker has signed a sponsorship deal with CanThrow that will
benefit Canadian throwers this outdoor season. "It's a great
opportunity for throwers across Canada and it will go a long way in
benefitting throws in Canada" says Larry Steinke, a Canadian throws
development chair and CanThrow Web Site developer. "It is one of those
great partnerships that will probably become more common place as
financial times get tougher.""Foot Locker is proud to be involved with a site like CanThrow and a program that offers opportunities for Canadian Throwers", adds Richard Parkinson, Director of Marketing, Foot Locker Canada. "Foot Locker's heritage is sports and over time, we have moved away from this positioning. Foot Locker is a sport inspired fashion retailer and even though fashion trends change, we will/still carry quality, brand name, high performance technical athletic footwear and apparel. Through programs like, "The Foot Locker Throws Team " program, we are not only getting back to our heritage, we are adding value back in to the sport". We at Foot Locker Canada look forward to our future partnership with this program." Foot Locker has partnered up with CanThrow to help with ongoing expenses related to the web site as well as product contributions for athletes. Part of this partnership will be that the rankings on the CanThrow Web Site will now be named the Foot Locker Canada National Throws Rankings. As part of the National Rankings, Foot Locker will establish the "Foot Locker Canada Throws Team". The Foot Locker Canada Throws Team will be made up of the number one ranked athlete in each throwing event (shot, discus, javelin and hammer), for both women and men in the juvenile, junior and senior age classes. Foot Locker will be providing each member of the Foot Locker Canada throws team, a pair of Nike throwing shoes (for their event), a "Foot Locker throws team" Nike track bag, a "Foot Locker throws Team" sweat shirt and a $100 Foot Locker gift certificate to be used at any Foot Locker store in Canada. A certificate highlighting the #1 ranking achievement will also be awarded. The winners will be announced on September 30th 1998 and will include results from the Commonwealth Games in Malaysia. All prizes will be awarded after results have been verified and confirmed. If for some reason an athlete cannot receive their prize then the next ranked athlete will receive the prize. The same will be true of athletes ranked first in more than one event.
