Canadian Discus Record For Tunks

March 30 1998
Jason Tunks added to the string of Canadian records in the 1998 season while competing at the U of Texas Arlington Invitational this past weekend. Tunks established a new Canadian record in the discus by throwing 67.74m. This is the farthest throw in the world so far this year and would have been the second farthest throw in the world in 1997 as only Lars Reidel had thrown farther. . The old record > was 65.72 set on May 22 12991 by Ray Lazdins.

Tunks had throws of 66.22, 65.70, 67.28 with the 2kg discus in practice on Thursday and throws of 69.38, 68.00, 70.08 with a 1.9kg discus and had predicted big things for the weekend. He delivered on those predicitons and possibly the most exciting part is that Tunks is still in a hgih volume and heavy lifting stage and will not be getting ready to peak until Sept 1-20 where he will now be the favourite at the Commonwealth Games in Kuala Lumpir.
