THROWING NEWSCanadian Junior Record For Jim Steacy March 3, 2003 Jim Steacy of Lethbridge led a Pronghorn sweep of the CWUAA men's weight throw this past weekend and when the dust had settled he had established a new Canadian Junior record as well. Steacy threw a personal best of 20.72 to set the new mark. Chris Meisner was second with 17.74, Jonathan Doucette was second with a toss of 17.25 and Mike Sagert was fourth with a throw of 16.79 to add to the U of L sweep. In Shot, Meisner led the pack with a throw of 16.30 while Doucette was second with 16.11 and Grant Chapman of the U of A was third with a throw of 15.74. Steacy added a personal best in shot to finish fourth with a throw of 15.55. Steacy was later named the CWUAA Rookie of the Year, performance of the meet and the CWUAA representative for the CIS field event athlete of the year. On the women's side at the CWUAA championships, Megan Reid of the U of S threw a new CWUAA record of 16.83 to win the competition. Team-mate Heidi Epp added a personal best throw of 15.88 to finish second while Melissa These of the U of A also had a personal best of 15.32 to win the bronze. Reid also won the shot put with a throw of 12.97. Chantel Bourque of the U of A had a throw of 12.85 to win the silver and Epp followed up her silver in weight with a bronze medal performance of 12.64. Next action for the Canadian University throws athletes will be the CIS championships March 13-15 in Windsor Ontario.
