Virginia Tech Kroger Invitational Spotlights Arkansas DMR
(Misapeka goes for World Best in Weight Throw)
(Blacksburg, VA) It seems that every weekend in Blacksburg some of the
finest track & field athletes in the World arrive. This weekends Kroger
Invitational will be no exception. For the past six weeks the World has
turned its head to see what fantastic performances have been achieved on
the new Mondo track on the Virginia Tech campus. One of the highlights of
this weekend will be the Men's Distance Medley Relay with National Champion
ARKANSAS competing against #5 NCAA ranked Tulsa. 1996 1500m U.S. Olympian,
Senica Lassiter will anchor the razorback relay that is slated to start at
7:10PM on Friday evening.
Athletes from the following colleges and UNIVERSITIES will attend this
weekends meet:
Virginia Tech, Arkansas (DMR Only), Bucknell, Brevard, Clemson, Coastal
Carolina, Duke, Duquesne, East Carolina, Fork Union, George Mason (W),
Hagerstown CC, JMU, Liberty, Lynchburg, Marshall, Morehouse, NAVY, ARMY,
Norfolk State (W), NC State, UNC-Chapel Hill, Penn State (M), Pittsburgh,
Shippensburg, South Carolina, Tennessee (M), Tennessee State, UAB,
UNC-Wilmington, Tulsa, Virginia, VMI, Wake Forest, W&M (W)
The following is a list of CLUBS that will represented:
Adidas, Asics, Atlantic Coast, Bahamas National Team, Crusaders TC,
Cumberland Valley TC, Elite International, Fleet Feet Elite, Icelandic
National Team, Ireland National Team, Mizzuno, New Balance, Panama National
Team, Reebok Enclave, Shore Athletic Club, South Carolina Elite,
Tigerbelles TC, World Express Athletic Club
The following is a list of a few of the OPEN athletes that will compete in
this weekends Kroger Invitational:
FIELD EVENTS
Lisa Misapeka [Event-20# Weight] (South Carolina Elite) will be gunning for
a World Record in the 20lb. weight on Friday evening at 5:00PM. Last
weekend she threw over 73 feet, just shy of the World Record. She
currently ranks as the #2 All-Time performer in the weight throw and was an
11 time All-American at South Carolina. The 1996 Olympian is coached by
current South Carolina Throws Coach and former Virginia Tech Throws Coach,
Mike Sergent.
Michelle Fournier [Event-20# Weight] (University of South Carolina) is
currently ranked 4th in the NCAA in the weight throw. She is a 1998
All-American and is the former Canadian Record holder in the weight throw.
Ryan Harrison [Event-35# Weight] (University of South Carolina) will also
look for a big performance in the men's 35 lb. weight. Just two weeks ago
he set the American Collegiate Record at a meet at the University of
Florida. He was a 1996 Olympian and is a 6 time All-American at South
Carolina. He would love to improve on his American Collegiate Record.
Erick Kingston [Event-35# Weight & Shot] (Virginia Tech) The 1998
All-American hammer thrower will be looking to meet the NCAA standard in
the weight event.
Brad Snyder [Event-35# Weight] (University of South Carolina) is the 1998
NCAA Champion in the shot put indoor and outdoor. He is a 1996 Olympian
and 4 time Canadian Champion. He is a 6-time All American and was selected
as the 1998 SEC Indoor Athlete of the Year. He holds the Canadian Record
in the shot put.
Bert Sorin [Event-35# Weight](University of South Carolina) is currently
ranked 8th in the Nation and is a 2 time All-American in the hammer.
