In the first year of what many hope to be an annual event, the Canadian junior team dominated the throws at the dual between the Canada and the Central America and Carribean team. The only event where a Canadian did not finish in the top spot was men's javelin where Terry Nurse of Barbados edged out Jason Droppert of Canada. Dominique Bilodeau was a surprise double winner as she had a personal best in shot put of 13.55m to win and then a throw of 46.42m in javelin to win that event as well. Garrett Collier had a personal best to win the discus event at 48.93m. Roxana Hutanu of BC also threw a pb when she won the hammer with a throw of 48.25m. In hammer, Marie-Josee Lejour also pb'ed with 45.16m to finish second and add to a Canadian sweep of the event. Nikki Pawluk was the third spot finisher. A strong pb by Lianne Coombe in Discus of 46.49m should also be noted. Her previous best was 43.95m set at the Ontario Senior Provincal Championships, which she won.
