Lethbridge teen is world ranked

From the Alberta Sporting Youth Web Site

Lethbridge's Jim Steacy has been ranked ninth in the world by Canada's national track and field magazine, Athletics.

Steacy places number nine on the 2001 Under 18 years World List for the 16-pound hammer throw. The 17-year-old Winston Churchill High School student had a 59.21 metre throw for Canada at the 2001 Junior Pan American Games in Argentina last fall.

Steacy is also the top-rated North American high school boy in the 25-pound weight throw after establishing a Canadian Juvenile record throw of 23.05 metres last year.

In February, Steacy will be competing in the High School Boys Weight Throw event at the Simplot Games in Pocatello, Idaho. This meet is considered the premier indoor track and field event for high school athletes.
