Sagert captures bronze in hammer

LONDON, Ont. -- Lethbridge's Mike Sagert captured bronze for Alberta

at the Canada Summer Games Tuesday. Sagert, competing in the men's hammer throw, placed third after a

50.82 metre throw, Alberta's 19th bronze and 51st medal of the Games. Meanwhile the Alberta men's baseball team improved to 2-1 after a 25-6 blowout of Saskatchewan. The team, consisting of Ryan Handley, Chris Ulmer, Tyler Klippenstein and Aaron Lavorato of Lethbridge as well as Coaldale's Colin Rudko, split its first two games Monday, beating Newfoundland 9-4 before dropping a 5-4 decision to Quebec.

Tuesday, Rudko drove in three runs in the rout, while Klippenstein and Lavorato each added a pair of RBI.

The Alberta rugby team, with a host of local players, earned their first win of the Games with an 8-7 win over Saskatchewan.

Lethbridge's Vaughn Bard, David Clark and Cory Gejdos, Fort Macleod's Matt James, Sam Val-Zehan and Neil James, as well as Vulcan's Ken Seaman are all on Alberta's rugby squad that opened their tourney with an 0-2 mark. Alberta lost 25-3 to Ontario on Monday.

In late action at the Games Monday, Lethbridge's Karla McGee cleared 3.65 metres in the women's pole vault to claim a bronze medal. Arielle Mitchell of Lethbridge placed sixth overall.
