Chinook Club, Steacy dominate meets
From the Lethbridge Herald June 12 2001
Chinook Track and Field Club athletes dominated the throwing events over the weekend at the Alberta
Provincial championships in Edmonton while Winston Churchill High School student Jim Steacy cracked a
provincial ASAA discus record at the high school provincial track meet.
At the Alberta Provincials, Chinook athletes swept the podium spots in the women's hammer throw with Patti
Pilsner-Steinke claiming gold, Carla Pavan winning silver and Sonya Friesen claiming bronze.
On the men's side of the draw, Larry Steinke won both the men's javelin and shot put events while Jaime
Thomas was second in men's javelin and third in each of the high jump and triple jump events.
Brent Rybachuk and Mike Sagert were second and third respectively for Chinook in the men's hammer throw
while provincial gold went to Greg Urbanczyk in the men's discus.
Rounding out the weekend results for Chinook was Barry Smith who placed second in the men's triple jump.
At the Alberta Schools Athletic Association provincial high school track meet, Churchill's Steacy won the
intermediate men's discus in spectacular fashion, setting a new provincial record with a 48.38 metre throw.
Steacy shattered the previous record of 45.40 by nearly three metres.
