STEACY GETS SECOND WORLD STANDARD

At the Chinook Throws Gala this past weekend Jim Steacy achieved standard for the World Youth Championships in a second event. Steacy threw 51.65 in discus and just missed the Alberta provincial record of 51.68 set by Lee Andrews in 1985 by 3cm but surpassed the standard of 49.40 for the World youth Championships in Debrecen Hungary. Steacy also established a new provincial records when he threw 62.14m in hammer which also surpasses the World Youth Championships Standard. Not to be outdone by his older brother, Sean Steacy established a new Alberta provincial record in midget men's hammer with a throw of 46.52. Sean also won the discus with a throw of 38.58 after having established a Gilbert Patterson Junior High School record of 41.90 earlier in the week.

In other results throughout the weekend Mike Sagert opened his season with a mark of 49.72 in men's hammer which achieved the B standard for the Alberta Team to the Canada Games. In women's hammer Carla Pavan continued to improve on her season's best with a throw of 55.92 while Patti Pilsner-Steinke threw 57.72 to improve upon her season's best. Lee Flohr threw 39.85 for a personal best in juvenile men's hammer
